Learning Objectives:

The course aims to complement the theoretical knowledge gathered in PHY 201 by means of experimental demonstration.

Course Contents:

• e/m ratio using a pair of Helmhotz coils
• Magnetic torque
• Electron diffraction
• Stefan-Boltzmann’s law of radiation
• Coils in AC circuit, capacitor in the AC circuit and RLC circuit
• Dispersion and resolving power of prism and grating spectroscope
• Fine structure, one and two electron spectra
• Balmer series/determination of Rydberg’s constant
• Atomic spectra of two-electron systems: He, Hg
• Thermal and electrical conductivity of copper and aluminum
• Determination of Planck’s constant
• Rotational Spectra of Iodine vapor
