General Instructions for the New BS/BS-MS (Dual Degree) Students

Dear Student,

Greetings from IISER Bhopal!!

Please find below important instructions regarding registration:

Registration Schedule

August 20-21, 2024: For BS/BS-MS (Dual Degree) Students [who have ACCEPTED and FROZEN their admission offer to join an IISER Bhopal]:

The candidate must be present, in person, for the Registration (Joining) Process in Lecture Hall Complex (LHC) at 10:00 AM. The document verification process will be held from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Owing to compelling reasons (e.g., illness) if a student is not able to register on the above dates, he/she can register on or before August 27, 2024, (the last date for late registration) under intimation to the Office of Academic Affairs (office_aa@iiserb.ac.in). A fine of Rs. 1000/- would be charged for late registration.

In order to complete the Joining/Registration, you are required to produce all documents, IN ORIGINAL (For Verification Purpose), along with a self-attested copy of following documents after filling up all details as per the prescribed formats.

    Additionally, an online anti-ragging form must be filled online at the link https://antiragging.in (under UNIVERSITY tab)and submit the hard copy of the same.

Allotment of Roll No. and IISER Bhopal E-mail ID

Will be provided within 2 - 3 days after the end of Admissions/Registrations of new students.

Payment of Balance Fee

Students admitted to BS-MS (Dual Degree)/BS Programme must pay the difference of SAF and prescribed Total fee for admission in IISER Bhopal at the time of joining IISER Bhopal.

The fee payment must be paid online via SBI collect ONLY.

Faculty Advisor

On joining the Institute, the UG students are assigned to a Faculty Adviser (FA) for the first two year of the programme. The role of FA is of immense importance to students. The Faculty Advisers mainly

  • advise the students about the rules and regulations governing the programme.
  • give suggestions on the courses to be taken in various semesters
  • pay special attention to academically weak students.

The students are expected to meet their FA at least once in a month and discuss any issues related to their progress. The parents/guardians can contact the FA for various academic issues of their wards.

Hand-Holding

Under this scheme, senior students are designated to mentor first year students. Required numbers of students from third year of studies are shortlisted based on merit to handhold new entrants of the 1st year of the undergraduate programme. These mentor students have enough experience related to the academic and co-curricular activities of the IISER system and hence are in a position to offer suitable guidance as and when required.

Orientation for New Students

The Orientation session organised for new students is mandatory for all to attend. The Orientation Session comprises of address of the Director and briefing of rules and regulation by the Dean, Academic Affairs and Dean, Student Affairs.

Fellowship Activation

Externally funded (INSPIRE-SHE/KVPY) students should submit the completed and relevant forms for activation of fellowship to the granting agency through the Institute.

Medical Insurance

Medical Insurance Policy is mandatory for all students joining IISER Bhopal.

FAQs

Q. Can we submit the balance fee at the time of in person registration at IISER Bhopal?

Ans. No, you must pay the balance fee by the prescribed date mentioned in the email sent by IISER Bhopal. Your seat will be offered to another candidate in case you have not pay the fee by the last date and your admission will be treated as cancelled.

Q. If you have missed uploading a document or it is not available at the moment?

Ans. Don’t worry, you must bring the original for verification at the time of in person registration.

Q. Are the Migration Certificate and TC both required?

Ans. Yes, If the migration certificate is not being issued by your class XII board. You have to bring a certificate in this regard from your school along with the School Leaving Certificate and/or Transfer Certificate, in original.

Q. I want to update my phone no. or email ID.

Ans. This can be done after the admission at IISER Bhopal.

Q. I have paid extra fees?

Ans. It will be adjusted / returned.

Q. When will my class start?

Ans. The date of the class commencement will be informed to you via a separate email. Generally, it will be immediately after the in-person registration is over.

Q. I am eligible for INSPIRE fellowship and the deadline for application is near/over.

Ans. Don’t worry, the students eligible for INSPIRE fellowship will be asked to submit the application and will be forwarded collectively to the INSPIRE after the admissions are over.

Q. Can I join the campus late i.e. beyond the prescribed dates?

Ans. Owing to compelling reasons (e.g., illness) if a student is not able to register on the prescribed dates, you can join the campus on or before August 27, 2024, under intimation to the Office of Academic Affairs (office_aa@iiserb.ac.in). A fine of Rs. 1000/- would be charged for late registration. Please note that if you do not register by the last date i.e. August 27, 2024, your admission will stand cancelled.

Campus Facilities

Library

Central Library hosts a collection of books that students are welcome to read/ issue. Books in “Reference Section” cannot be issued out of the library, however; one can read these books inside library. Central Library is subscribing various e-resources and available at Digital Library page.

Computer Centre

Institute has a well-equipped Computer Centre populated with 297 Desktop machines in three separate labs with Windows and Linux OS. CC provides Computer Lab facility for UG and PG students based on Linux/Windows platform with application software. Currently, the lab facility is used for programming-based classes and workshops. When classes/workshops are not scheduled, it is available to students for assignments and projects. The lab facility is also used for conducting academic and administrative exams.

Photocopying Services

Photocopying facility is available within the premises of the Library through an external vendor on payment basis.

Hostels

Institute provides an on-campus Hostel accommodation to all registered students. Institute has a total of 6 Hostels (4 Boys Hostel and 2 Girls Hostel). Hostel building has provision of ramp at entrance and lift (elevators) facility is also available for easy movement of students. Provision of rooms with attached toilet is also made available for the students with disability. Each hostel room is provided with cot, study table, chair, Almira, tube light, a study lamp. First year students shall be provided accommodation on sharing basis.

Hostel Mess

Institute has 04 Mess in the hostel area run by the student cooperative mess management committee (SCMMC) mentored by the hostel Wardens, The Mess is allotted batch wise (Admitted year) to the students.

Hostel Common Rooms

Common rooms available in each Hostel has facilities like TV, news-paper and magazines. Free Wi-Fi facility is made available to all students in the Campus.

Sports, Cultural & Recreational Facilities

To promote sports and other recreation and health activities for the students the Institute has the following facilities in the campus:

  • Outdoor games: Playground for Cricket, Football, Long Tennis, Kho-Kho, Basket Ball, and Volley Ball.
  • Indoor Games: Badminton Court, Table Tennis,
  • Health Club: Gymnasium separately for Boys and Girls and One Common Gymnasium at the Institute club.
  • Recreation Facilities: The Institute has an Institute Club with recreation facility consisting of a Gymnasium, Badminton court, Table tennis and other indoor games facility.

Sports Coaches

Institute has full time Sports-in-Charge and coaches for different sports like Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Badminton, Volley Ball, Yoga, basketball etc. Institute also has well equipped Gym facility for the students.

Safety and Security

The Institute has deployed adequate Security Guards in the Hostels. Lady security guard is posted in the girls hostel. The Institute security system also includes security checks at the level of Institute’s Main Gate, patrolling in Hostel areas are done by the security supervisor in continuity.

Health Centre

A well-equipped Health Center is located in the campus for providing primary health care to IISER Bhopal community. Qualified medical doctors and nursing staff, both male and female, are available round the clock. Health Centre is also equipped with Ambulance, wheel chairs and walker.

Shopping Complex

Institute has a Shopping Complex comprising of shops for daily necessities like groceries, fruits/juices, books and stationery, travel agency, courier services, miscellaneous items, restaurant etc. Temporary stalls for Mattresses, pillows, buckets, etc. will be set up in shopping complex.

Indian Coffee House (ICH)

The ICH out let near Ensemble, Coffee, & meals etc. has been set-up for the community members.

Cafe-Coffee Day (CCD)

The CCD out let near Library entrance, an Ideation Hut & Brain Space (a point near hostel for Tea & snacks and creative discussion) is set-up for the student community.

E-Rickshaw

E-Rickshaw services are available for easy movement anywhere within the campus.

Bank and Post Office

The State Bank of India and Post Office are located at the ground floor of Shopping Complex. There are two ATM booths one of SBI and another one of Canara Bank.

Counselling System in the Institute

The Institute provides orientations session to the new batch of students at the beginning of the academic sessions. The Institute counsellors provide one to one counselling services to students, In addition to the counsellors also conducts batch-wise/group sessions for the students. The students’ counsellors strive to ensure welfare of students by providing them with emotional and moral support during times of academic or emotional stress, anxiety, depression etc. The counsellors are approachable through emails also. The counsellor also arranges for regular talks and seminars by eminent psychologists to boost the morale of the students, or to address specific issues faced by the students.

Internal Complaint Committee

An Internal Complaints Committee has been set up at IISER Bhopal as per provisions of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, Redressal) Act 2013.

Anti Ragging Committee

An Institute level Anti ragging committee is set up at IISER Bhopal as per the UGC regulations.

Other Initiative of the Institute to Promote Sports and Other Activities

The Institute has constituted the “IISER Bhopal Cultural and Sports Foundation” (ICSF, Bhopal) to promote sports and other cultural and recreation activities for the students enrolled in different academic programs BSMS, IPhD and PhD and for the campus community members. This also comprises of the Sports and other Council represented by the Students under the Student Activity Council (SAC). The SAC has many types of council like Sports, Cultural, Science, Fine Art & Literary, Student Development Councils etc. The SAC has many affiliated clubs like: Biology club, Mathematics club, Physics club, astronomy club etc.
